in the cocoon

I’ve had enough of being cooped up indoors, so I venture outside
for a run. The air is fuzzy with heat and humidity. I sweat so much
that I no longer touch the air – I run inside a watery cocoon.
The sun hardly shines through the haze – a glowing white light
all around… but there’s no metamorphosis, just a cool shower,
clean clothes, and I’m back at my air-conditioned desk.
