The back yard is perfumed with chokecherry blossoms, a
warm, light breeze at dusk, a baby’s breath asleep.
I bought and planted potentilla, pussytoes and blazingstar by the
driveway where they dumped a big pile of composted manure last fall
(I left a layer behind). It’s good soil there – better than I thought –
but every summer it dries out to a hard-packed clay. I hope the manure
and a layer of mulch can keep it softer this year.
I bought a lot more to plant, but that will have to wait until I
have more time – on Friday, I hope.
