Some new camera toys arrived today – a belated Christmas present
to myself. I bought a nice tripod with a ball head and a set of
filters. It may be a while before you see any difference in my
pictures here, but I expect it will increase the range of conditions
under which I can take pictures – lower light, greater depth of field.
I’m looking forward to playing with it.
Also, not from the store
but from the library, I recommend John Shaw’s
Nature Photography Field Guide. I haven’t read the whole thing yet, but
I’ve enjoyed experimenting with the techniques, challenges and
thought processes Shaw so clearly explains in his book. I have a
lot to learn, but at least a digital camera makes it cheaper to make
my many mistakes. And he has a philosophy that I happen to share:
“To be a better nature photographer, be a better naturalist.”
