(Emerald Isle, NC) Last night, after a couple of flights and a three-hour drive through blinding rain to the ocean we were greeted by the soothing sounds of surf… and laughter… and family. Here, too, is home, with food like Mom used to make (and still does!), and all my brothers and sisters-in-law and nephews and nieces and it’s still comfortable, and relaxed.
Today I continued my pond-digging obsession with some temporary pools in the sand. My brother brought a full-size shovel, so I could afford to be ambitious, but my supervisors, a pair of four-year-olds, were still pretty demanding.
I really enjoy talking with them, too. Their directness and lack of guile is refreshing… and it brings out the same in me.
