A windy ride on my bicycle. A few straggling cottonwood seeds danced like sprites on sunbeams through the leaves. I found wildflowers at every water break, in ditches, embankments and scraps of leftover land – but in my yard, we only get weeds.
When I got back, I washed and replaced the shutters, then mowed the recently shrunken lawn; it went much
. Finally, I dug a new bed for growing more asparagus, from seed. It’ll be at least four years before we can harvest any asparagus from it, but we plan to be around a while yet
Deer have eaten most of our sunflowers. There are a handful still camouflaged in the tall grass, and one big one right next to our deck – too close for the deer to come (so far).
