I started out today thinking of Mahler’s 9th Symphony, especially one particular theme, hesitant and unresolving. There were small groups of Canada Geese flying about, honking to each other like french horns. But as the day’s coolness and dampness thickened into rain, the day belonged to tomato and pumpkin soup, and the warm, delicious pain of the blues… soulful saxophone harmonies and Charlie Musselwhite’s “Walking Alone.”
