Yesterday was drier, the sky paler. Today is damper, the sky a solid sheet of gray, the trees a shade dimmer. Mornings are now dark until almost 7:30, evenings dark by 6:30. Daylight is precious, time not to be wasted. What to do?

We managed to get the vegetable and marigold beds put to bed yesterday afternoon, but the gutters still beckon – nay, taunt – with their matted leaves.

And I baked a loaf of bread this morning for breakfast. I never thought I’d see the day, but we finished our jar of yeast!

The day got a lot better. It rained for a couple of hours, then cleared to another perfect blue sky. I noticed a couple of the bare trees now with branches like whips in the wind.
