leaf scales on the pond
Working in the garden today I notice leaves covering the surface of our pond. In the stillness of a photograph they could be cobblestones – a mosaic – but on the water they flex and move like the scales of a living skin – the side of a giant fish, or a huge, yellow serpent sliding just below the surface.
