I sold my 4Runner today. I didn’t think it would be so hard, but
despite my relative lack of driving, and no real affinity for cars,
I discovered that I identified myself with my car. I was the kind of
person who drove a 9-year-old 4Runner with very low mileage. Now,
in automotive terms, at least, I don’t know who I am. I drive my
wife’s 19-year-old Honda Prelude, or the car we just got (which
forced my 4Runner out), a 4-year-old Audi TT. The TT sure is fun
to drive, but it doesn’t feel like me. So until it does, here’s
to my 4Runner, the best car I’ve ever owned.
