Painted lady butterflies (Vanessa cardui) flock to our black-eyed susa
ns.

After planting 3 cardinal flowers and 3 dozen mother-of-thyme, the rain
FINALLY came, releasing a host of new smells… damp wood,
falling leaves, must, spores. A different kind of fertility than in
spring, but fertility nonetheless. I stayed outside in the rain for
a while, it felt so good.

I still don’t have the liner in the pond, but it’s more likely now – the
rain is encouraging.
