(Reno, NV) The eastern foothills have a stronger presence in spring. In the pale light of winter they seemed flat and insubstantial, but now – and maybe it’s the bushy plants, too – they seem more solid, more three-dimensional – bigger than before.

In the evening, a dome of light arcs over the western range, while clouds pile up against it like boulders on the shore of a clear lake.
