The work of conserving soil is not fun. It takes time, and it doesn’t have the same obvious satisfactions as colorful flowers or an abundant vegetable garden. I haven’t yet developed an appreciation for the crumb of the soil - the tilth. It’s still just dirt to me. I’m trying to overcome my ignorance, though, to get a worm’s-eye view (or would “worm’s-mouth taste” be more accurate?) of soil. Â
